Global IPv6 Policy
The RIRs are working on a global IPv6 policy
- Current IPv6 allocations are done under the “bootstrap” rules which allow for any company using IPv6 in production to obtain an allocation
- Agreement among all RIRs to accept /48 as standard assignment for subnetted sites (64k subnets)
- Policies under review include default allocation size, criteria for initial allocations, and standard assignment sizes for various end-user sites
- More discussion to come later
