Scale of IP address requirements
Number of IP addresses required for the global GPRS infrastructure will depend upon: -
- Number of GPRS operators
- 400 current potential GPRS operators
- Number of addressable elements per operator network
- E.g. Approx. 8000 IP addresses BT Cellnet by year 5
- Other currently unforeseeable networks/service providers could require access to the GPRS roaming backbone, and hence bound by same addressing scheme rules. Also, UMTS trials start in 18 months.
Approx 3.2 million IP addresses for current five year GPRS projection, excl unforeseen req’ts and UMTS
(400 networks x 8000 addresses/network)
