Supporting growth - IPv6 solution (cont.)
Current proposal for top level IPv6 address allocation is problematic:
- top level allocations are assigned only to organizations providing public transit
- any organization that doesn’t provide public transit (e.g., Microsoft) would be required to take addresses out of its provider(s)
- the goal of address allocation is to support address aggregation via hiearchical routing
- address aggregation is orthogonal to providing public transit
